I have been using Netjuke for my server-based music database. I require a web server-based music application because I use so many different computers from so many locations. Also, my development workstations are much less stable environments. It's great to be able to stream MP3 because just about every computer has an MP3 player or one is easy to download and install. However, In another project, I was working on software for a PowerFile DVD jukebox, which contains 2 drives with a 200 disc carousel. I made a program to rip audio CDs utilizing both drives. To test, I ripped my ~500 CD collection to Ogg Vorbis format. Unfortunately, Ogg Vorbis is not so convenient to play from just about any computer especially if you are not permitted to install software. Therefore, I tracked down a Java applet that is able to play MP3 and Ogg Vorbis called jlGuiApplet. I modified Netjuke to invoke a page in a new window hosting the applet. It looks just like Winamp, and can even load Winamp skins! I need to produce a patch against netjuke so I can upgrade netjuke if needed. So, I have been using this for a few of months now, and I really like this approach. I have a collection of ~6,000 songs I can access from just about anywhere on any machine!
